Welcome

Hi there, this is my own blog - as different to the HIBS blog that I have on the website.  http://www.hibslibrary.weebly.com/

I am currently reading Birthmarked by Caragh O'Brien- a dystopian novel set in a world after a great apocolypse- where every child born is needed to mix up an ever declining gene pool.  A novel for the mature reader which highlights some very real issues of a thinning population.  The story is simple: Gaia is the daughter of Jasper and Bonnie Stone.  Her mother is a midwife in the Western Sector outside the Wall of the Enclave.  As a midwife she must give the first 3 children born each month in her sector to the Enclave (the ruling society who enjoy privileges unknown to those 'outside').  Unbeknownst to the powers that be Bonnie and Jasper record each birth together with the parents and the birth date while also tattooing each new child with the symbol of the constellation Orion- Bonnie's maiden name.

When her parents are arrested, Gaia must continue as midwife until one day she hears that her parents are to be executed and she leaves the 'outside' to find them and hopefully help them escape.....
