Patrick Ness - the author of The Chaos Walking Trilogy, More Than This and a multi-award winner as well as being all-round nice guy, has announced the release date for his new novel.  On the link above yu can read a brief synopsis as well as the first line (which he is an adept at)

My favourite first sentence author is Patrick but the best for last lines is John Boyne.  Go on, check them out....

Welcome back to 2015!

2014 proved to be a crazy manic year in which the Library just seemed to be constantly busy - wonderfully magic.  However, I was remiss in posting on the blog regularly and I intend to change that.
This year I promise to regularly write something on here (once a week minimum...)

So let's begin!
Firstly - welcome back and welcome to the newbies to the Library and HIBS.

Over the holidays I have been reading loads and (while lying under the trees at the beach - see photo) I have been adding to the e-book collection too.
So go and check the hibs.wheelers.co site out and if you haven't yet registered for it do so....it only take 5 minutes :)
And while you are thinking about digital access - register with the Upper Hutt Library as a digital member.  This is available to all students, staff and family within the HIBS community - you do not have to live in the Upper Hutt district.  The catch is that you must register via the link on this website...www.hibslibrary.weebly.com - hint - you will find it on the drop down menu under e-books..

Lots of new titles on the display island too - check out new books on the website...

This is the first post I have made in two months!  So sorry about that, it has been a very busy time for all of us.

The very latest news in the library is the new Library Management System - Access-it.

This is a 'cloudbased' technology which means that wherever you are you will be able to access your library and make reservations, search for books, resources, read reviews or just generally browse on the HIBS Library catalogue and its many facets.

So go and have a play....

Note that you can access your favourite Library website and the e-book platform too....

Fun new apps to download for FREE!

I have just discovered some fun apps for budding writers and poets or for people who just love listening to quality poetry...

The Poetry App - is only available through I-tunes but is well worth it.  If you want to hear Voldemort read TS Elliot's 'The Wasteland' this is for you.  It will help in understanding the poem.  Y13's who have covered The Hollow Men, The Wasteland etc will find this app beneficial.






Wattpad - this app is like a creative writing course for FREE.  Read other people's work and create your own.  An interesting way to keep writing and find new writing buddies...





Writing prompts - this will give you a quick random prompt to keep the creativity going.  It is also possible to purchase more when things get really stuck...

Writing exercises - this was used effectively during last weeks creative writing session.  By giving random first lines, subjects, characters, and plot lines - writing exercises makes the creative flow fun and easy.  The results we got from the random first line were varied and diverse.  Read them for yourself on www.hibslibrary.weebly.com and go to the creative writing page.

Welcome to 2014!

well we have been back at school for about a week or so now, getting everything ready for you all...

I am really looking forward to catching up with everyone and for the next exciting chapter in all our lives!

To start you off I have put up the new books on the website so that those who are really keen can start reserving before school starts.

Term 4 is winding down

I cannot believe that I haven't updated this blog since the holidays.  The time has flown past (in the wind and the rain).  Thanks to those of you who have brought back the books you have finished so that the next on the list can read them...and so that I can include them in next weeks stocktake.

The Library will be briefly closed for business so that I can get this done as quickly and easily as possible and so that you can come in on the last week and get more reading material for summer.  The books get really lonely if they are ignored for the long break so please make new friends with a new book for the holidays (after all there is only so many computer games you can do).

If e-reading is more your thing - I added a further 53 books to the Wheelers page last week.  We now have loads more new titles - including all Skulduggery Pleasant, all Phoenix Files, all Noughts and Crosses....Lemony Snickets new series hibs.wheelers.co

With just a week and a half left of 2013 school life I wish you all a wonderful and restful holiday with loads of literary discovery!

sunny day in the holidays yay!

Well where ever you are in NZ today I hope you are having the magnificent weather that we are in sunny Featherston.  I am at my local library updating this as they have free WiFi...awesome! 

I finally managed to read Looking for Alaska last night - yes in one sitting - it is superb.  If you haven't read it yet and you are a fan of all things 'coming of age' you must add it to your list.

Books I have read these holidays so far - More than this - by Patrick Ness - beautiful and heart wrenching, for the bigger reader; The 13 1/2 lives of captain Bluebear - fans of Terry Pratchett should like the humour and the vocab; Submarine by Joe Dunthorne - again a 'coming of age' story that involves the story of a young man's year of growing up - funny and sad all at once and very real.  And of course Looking for Alaska....have reserved The Fault in our stars from the public library because it is always out of ours!

Hope you all are having a wonderful holiday and that you have time to read something fun/wonderful/crazy and great before we start back again.
